If you have a fascination for history then you must visit Jaigad fort, Ratna Durg, Purnagad Fort, Shivasamarth Gad, Malgund, Yeshwantgad, Suvarnadurg, Prachitgad and Thibaw Palace. Most of these forts were built during the reign of the Marathas and are a tribute to the glorious history of Ratnagiri. The Thibaw palace is also a place of great historical importance as the last king of Burma had been kept in captivity by the British here for 30 years after his defeat in the Anglo-Burmese War in 1885. The Tilak Ali Museum of Ratnagiri offers an insight in to the life of the great Lokmanya Tilak through paintings and pictures.

 For a nature lover Aarre-Warre beaches, Bhatye beach, Pawas, Ganga of Rajapur, Velas Beach, Velneshwar,  Lajul waterfall, Nivali waterfall, Mirkarwada beach, Mandavi beach, Ganapatipule beach are exotic locations. The fascinating point of some of these beaches is that historic temples and forts are located in close proximity to them ie Swayambhu Ganapati temple on the Ganapatipule beach, Shiva temple on Velneshwar beach, Ratnadurg fort in close proximity to the Mirkarwada beach. Apart from being a beautiful beach, Velas Beach is also popular among tourists for being the nesting ground of Olive Ridley Turtles.

The cultural diversity of the place is highlighted by the presence of religious spots like Babar Shah Peer, Sayyad Zahid Ali Shah Qadri, Shaikh Ali Baba, Swayambhu Ganapati temple, Parashuram Temple, Marleshwar Temple, Laxmi Keshav Temple, Parshuram Temple, Shri Dev Vyadeshwar and Atulit Bal Dham.

When to visit Ratnagiri

For an avid tourist climate is also an important factor as it determines the chances of visiting a place. Being a port city, Ratnagiri has moderate climatic conditions throughout the year. The average temperature varies between 32 degrees to 19 degrees. During the monsoon season between June to September, there are strong winds and cyclonic storms which could act as a hindrance for a tourist.     Hi, Thanks for the info. In accomodation you can Golven Beach Resort. Its the one in which we had stayed during our visit to Vengurla. The staff is courtes and well mannered. The cottage's are of AC and also have WIFI connection. It is sea faced therefore provides a scenic view from the resort itself. It
